The Planning & Zoning Department works to implement sustainable and balanced growth and enhancement of the quality of the physical and socioeconomic environment through the application of land use and zoning plan review; preparation of plans and policies; and administration and enforcement of the Zoning Code and Subdivision Regulations.
City Planner Responsibilities
The City Planner is responsible for the review and approval of site plans; permanent and temporary signs; fences; and Use Compliance Certificates. The City Planner is also involved in the enforcement of the Zoning Code and its regulations throughout the City.

Commissions and Boards
The Planning Commission is responsible for the City’s long-range, comprehensive planning process. The Commission also advises the Council on planning, zoning and platting matters. The following requests are reviewed by the Commission:
- Annexation petitions and establishment of zoning district for annexations
- Planned Unit Development preliminary and final plans
- Preliminary and final subdivision plats
- Replats and vacation plats
- Rezoning (Zone Map amendments)
- Right-of-way (street and alley) vacations
- Zoning Code and Subdivision Regulation amendments
The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet on the 3rd Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. if there is business to conduct.
The Zoning Board of Appeals is provided for by City ordinances. The Board reviews and determines requests for variances, conditional uses, and interpretations of the Zoning Code. The Board is scheduled to meet on the 3rd Monday of every month at 4:00 p.m. if there is business to conduct.
