On Monday, September 22, 2025, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Sidney Police Department was notified by the FBI regarding a credible threat of school violence, specifically related to Sidney, Ohio, via a TikTok posting. Agency members immediately notified Sidney City and parochial school administrators, including several city daycare centers, and advised them of the potential threat.
The FBI, in cooperation with Sidney PD detectives, was able to develop a person of interest using information received from TikTok. Through further investigation, Sidney Police investigators identified a juvenile male suspect who was located and taken into custody. A search of the residence did not locate any means by which the threat could be carried out. The juvenile male was transported to the West Central Ohio Juvenile Detention Center. Felony charges are pending after consultation with the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Sidney Police Department takes all threats of school violence seriously and makes every effort to provide timely information to all affected parties. We appreciate the assistance from all of our community stakeholders who’ve assisted our agency today.
The Sidney Police Department would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the FBI, the ATF, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this investigation.
