[ARCHIVED] Vehicle Pursuit

Sidney Police 1820

While on patrol around 9:51 p.m. on October 13, 2020,  Officer Jennings heard a vehicle’s tires squealing in the downtown area near N. Main Avenue. Officer Jennings drove to the area of North Street at Main Avenue to investigate. When he arrived in the area, he observed a maroon Chevy SUV going northbound on N. Main Avenue traveling at a high rate of speed.  Officer Jennings turned on his emergency lights to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle wouldn’t stop and went eastbound off the roadway using a path that used to be an old train track line leading to N. Miami Avenue. The vehicle re-entered the roadway at N. Miami Avenue and continued onto Canal Street and turned westbound in an alley from the 600 block of Broadway Avenue. The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed through the alley until crossed over East Avenue and struck the front end of a car that was parked in front of 615 East Avenue and went into a yard and struck the northwest corner of a residence at 324 Washington Street

The driver (Michael Ceyler) was transported to Wilson Health by Sidney medics and was being treated at Wilson Health at the time of this news release. Ceyler was the lone person in the vehicle during the short pursuit.

The incident remains under investigation, and charges will likely be filed at a later date.
