On February 22 2021 at approx. 930 AM investigators and officers from the Sidney Police Department executed an Abatement Order at 701 Monroe Street, Sidney Ohio.
An abatement order issued out of the Shelby County Common Pleas Court ordered the immediate removal of all persons from the residence due to a continued pattern of drug abuse behavior specifically drug usage, drug trafficking, and drug overdoses.
Since October 2019 the Sidney Police Department and other Emergency Services has responded to approx. 43 calls for service. Of these 43 calls 12 were related to drug overdoses with one fatality, 15 undercover drug buys, two drug search warrants, and numerous traffic stops by Sidney Patrol Officers resulting in drug possession arrests of person immediately leaving the Monroe Street residence. Additionally representatives of SAAT (Sidney Addiction Assistance Team) have been at the residence 20 times since 2016 in attempt to provide drug counseling assistance to various occupants. Throughout these many calls for service interactions with Law Enforcement and Support Services the occupants were advised that continued engagement of the drug abuse behaviors at the residence placed them in jeopardy of eviction and the location being condemned.
Early this morning after officers made contact four adults were located at the residence. All four were allowed time to gather up personal belongings and three dogs before departing the residence. During an inspection a cat was found in the basemen along with unsafe conditions with the electrical and sewage systems. As a result of these unsafe conditions the residence was condemned by The City Building Inspector and the Shelby County Health Department. The cat was turned over to the Shelby County Animal Shelter. A small amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia were located inside the residence during the abatement.
This Abatement is a continuing effort by the Sidney Police Department to combat a persistent drug abuse and drug trafficking location in Sidney. Information resulting in this effort was derived in part from concerned citizens in that neighborhood. All citizens are asked that if they have any information about drug activity to contact the Sidney Police Department at 937-498-8777 or Crime Stoppers at 937-492-8477 (TIPS).
