New Riverway Signage a Part of Water Safety Initiative

Identification signs placed on bridges along Great Miami River

Late last month, the Shelby County Highway Department installed new identification signage on the county-controlled bridges over the Great Miami River. This new signage is a cooperative effort between the Great Miami Riverway Coalition, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the county engineer from each county along the riverway corridor.

ODOT District 7 which serves, Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery and Shelby counties has also begun hanging the signage along state-controlled bridges. ODOT intends to continue the signage program on all state-controlled bridges over the Great Miami River south of Montgomery County to the Ohio River.

The new signage is a water safety initiative aimed at keeping those who use the Great Miami River more aware of their location in the event of an emergency. The signage will help to provide emergency responders with more accurate locations.

Thanks to all the organizations involved in this water safety initiative.
