Sidney Police to Offer Self-Defense Course

Sidney Police 1820

The Sidney Police Department will be hosting a Rape. Aggression. Defense. (R.A.D.) self-defense course for ladies age 13 and older. The self-defense class is centered on showing and teaching females how to self-protect against an attacker. The classes will be held on July 22 and 29, August 5 and 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Sidney Police Department. Each of these programs includes educational components comprised of lecture, discussion, and physical resistive strategies.

R.A.D. is internationally recognized for programming quality and organizational commitment to excellence. R.A.D. also balances the needs of women to acquire self-defense education in a relatively short period of time, with the lifelong commitment required for physical skill mastery. R.A.D. has developed specialized simulation techniques and equipment for use by certified instructors.

R.A.D. has trained more than 900,000 women since the program began in 1989.

The local course is taught by local R.A.D. certified instructors including Sidney Police Officers, New Choices advocates and a representative from Crime Stoppers. Up to 25 participants will be accepted and the spaces will fill up quickly. Those interested in attending may contact Community Resource Officer Bryce Stewart at bstewart@sidneyoh.com or 937.498.2351.
