It was announced earlier this week that Sidney was again named to Site Selection Magazine’s Top 100 Micropolitan List for 2021. This is a very prestigious designation as Sidney was ranked in a tie for 19th on the list compared to thousands of communities nationally.
To make the list, data about existing company expansions and new projects to the community are evaluated and tallied for total corporate facility investment. In 2021, Sidney-Shelby Economic Partnership (SSEP) Executive Director Jim Hill submitted seven projects for Sidney/Shelby County; four from Sidney and three from Shelby County. Five projects ultimately made the list after the review process was complete. Projects submitted from Sidney include:
- Shaffer Metal Fab expansion
- MV Polishing facility construction
- Sponseller Group corporate office construction
- Cargill expansion
The Governor's Cup Awards are the annual Site Selection suite of awards that recognize the top states in the nation based on new or expanded facilities over the past 12 months, as well as the top metropolitans, top micropolitans and top industries. Ohio topped the list for states with the highest number of top micropolitans and was ranked #2 in the overall number of projects.
The national ranking is a testament to the strength of the business climate and assets in Sidney.
2021 is the sixth consecutive year Sidney has been named to this prestigious economic development list.
