128 Tree Planted on Two City Properties

City of Sidney Parks and Recreation - Learn Play Grow

Last week, a total of 128 trees were planted on two city properties thanks to corporate donations and an Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Urban Canopy Restoration Grant. The trees were planted in Tawawa Park and at Graceland Cemetery.

Five of each of the following tree varieties were planted:

• White Oak 
• Northern Red Oak
• Shumard Oak 
• Bur Oak
• Scarlet Oak 
• Oak Regal Prince
• Shag Bark Hickory 
• Pignut Hickory
• Sweetgum 
• American Beech
• Common Serviceberry 
• American Hornbeam
• Sugar Maple 
• Red Maple
• Big Leaf Maple 
• Blue Spruce
• Tulip Poplar 
• American Linden
• American Sycamore 
• Black Gum

The 2022 ODNR grant of $25,000 required a cash match of $25,000. Thank you to our generous corporate donors including: Cargill, Sidney Kiwanis Club, 3.) Sidney Rotary Club, Germain Auto Group, Ferguson Construction, Thermoseal, S&S Hospitality, Wilson Health, Mutual Federal, Minster Bank, Culvers and Copeland for providing the cash match funds.

Over 70 applications were received for funding for the available grant dollars. Approximately 20 communities were awarded funding for projects.
